Background
Siobhan's journey into dance event curation started in 2010 when she volunteered with a community arts organization in Galway. She was helping organize informal dance socials for older adults — nothing fancy, just people getting together to move and connect. What started as a grassroots initiative evolved into something much bigger.
Over the past 14 years, she's coordinated hundreds of dance events. From intimate weekend salsa socials in Galway's community halls to large-scale outdoor summer festivals in Wexford, and specialized kizomba workshops in Kilkenny. She's learned that age isn't a barrier to participation or enjoyment — it's just another part of who's in the room.
Her approach centers on creating genuinely inclusive spaces where people feel welcomed, not judged. She believes that movement is one of the most powerful connectors in Irish communities. That's why she focuses on documenting the vibrant dance calendar, providing practical guides for getting started, and highlighting the real stories of dancers who've transformed their social lives through these events.

What She Does
I focus on creating dance experiences that feel welcoming and accessible. A lot of seniors think they've missed the boat — that you need to have started dancing at 10 to join a social now. That's not true. I work with event organizers across Galway, Wexford, and Kilkenny to make sure there's space for absolute beginners, returning dancers, and experienced movers all in the same room. The key is finding the right event structure and community vibe.
I don't just list events. I actually attend them, talk to the organizers, and get a feel for the atmosphere. Then I write guides that go beyond the basics — I explain what to expect when you walk in, what the music will feel like, what to wear, how much space you'll have, whether it's partner dancing or solo, and who typically shows up. That kind of detail matters when you're thinking about trying something new.
These three things represent something real about Irish dance culture right now. Salsa socials in Galway have been running for years and they've become genuine community anchors. Kizomba workshops are gaining momentum in Kilkenny and they attract a different energy — more sensual, more about connection. And community halls matter because they're local, accessible, and they've got history. You're not dancing in some trendy nightclub; you're moving in spaces that have hosted everything from ceilis to card games.
People assume it's about staying young or reliving the past. It's not. It's about connection, expression, and having fun with other people who show up. I've seen friendships form, confidence bloom, and people discover sides of themselves they didn't know existed — all through movement. That's what I'm documenting and celebrating.
Approach
Siobhan's philosophy is simple: movement is for everyone, and community happens when people show up authentically. She's not interested in creating elite spaces or gatekeeping dance. Instead, she works to make the invisible visible — highlighting events that already exist but might not reach the people who'd benefit most, providing the practical details that remove barriers to participation, and telling the stories of real dancers who've changed their lives through connection.
She believes that documenting the dance calendar is actually an act of community care. When someone in Dublin is thinking about moving to Galway and worries about being lonely, she wants them to know exactly where the Saturday night salsa social meets and what it's like to walk in. When a Kilkenny resident has been curious about kizomba, she wants them to have enough information to feel confident taking that first step. That's the work.
At estroveld Limited, she brings this lived experience and institutional knowledge to help seniors across Ireland discover and navigate the dance opportunities available to them. Because she's not just writing about these events — she's been part of building them, and she understands what makes them matter.
